The executive meeting of Airline Operators Association of Nepal
(AOAN), today announced a series of protest programmes – against the recent
hike of aviation fuel prices – to be held at Tribhuvan International Airport
(TIA), the only international airport, and the regional airports from September 29.
“The association expressed its dissatisfaction over the government
not showing concern regarding the demand of airline operators of the country,” a
press release said, adding that it had submitted a memorandum to the Ministry
of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on September 11 requesting it to make
necessary changes regarding repeated air fuel price hikes but the ministry has
not shown any interest.
The meeting also decided that on September 29, airlines staff wear
a black ribbon during work at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and the
regional airports from 10am to 11am as a protest to the government.
The protest will continue till October 3.
The state oil monopoly had
on September 11, hiked the aviation fuel price to Rs 137 per litre from a month
ago’s Rs 130 per litre.On August 11 also, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) had jacked the aviation fuel price up by Rs 10 per litre for the domestic airlines.
