Finance Minister stresses on production-based economy for sustainable devevelopment



Finance Minister Shanker Prasad Koirala today emphasised on production-oriented economy for the sustainable development.
Addressing an interaction organised by Small Enterprise Development Programme (SEDP) here today, he said that economic revolution is not possible without production-oriented economy. “The import-oriented economy cannot sustain the economic development,” Koirala said, stressing on the need to encourage local industrialists to strengthen people’s economic situation. SEDP is a programme implemented by the Ministry of Industry.
Koirala, who is also the minister for Industry and Commerce, opined that the conducive environment for investment and political stability can attract more investors. The proposed foreign investment policy includes programmes to create investment-friendly climate in the country, he added.
"Not only flowers but even needles and threads are being imported from abroad during festivals like Dashain and Tihar, which has seen outflow of billions of rupees,” he added.
He also asked for increased investment in the local-level production assuring  that the government will provide enough funds for such programmes.
